Communications Internship

Facilities & Services, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, seeks to fill a part-time student intern position. Facilities & Services offers interns the unique opportunity to work with internal communications for an organization of approximately 1,200 employees while also providing external communications for customers. The Customer Relations & Communications (CRC) department coordinates an employee newsletter, all employee messages, material review and editing, presentations, media relations, as well as marketing and advertising. This internship provides students the opportunity to meet the challenging communications and marketing needs of units providing a wide range of services to the entire campus community. This internship does not offer monetary compensation, but has the potential to become a paid position.


A successful applicant must be a team player who enjoys working with people and feels comfortable working in a creative and fast-paced environment. The internship requires the ability to think and work both independently and as part of a team. Students applying should be self-starters with the ability to think critically and analyze situations and data. The schedule for this internship is flexible during the operating hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., M-F but does require a commitment of 8-12 hours per week.


The ideal candidate for this internship is creative, imaginative and will take pride in finding creative solutions, working hard, and being challenged. Excellent oral and written communication skills are critical to this position. A basic knowledge of computer applications in a PC environment is needed and experience in layout/design using the Adobe Creative Suite is beneficial.
