The University Library holds over 14 million volumes. Its world-renowned holdings include one of the greatest rare book and special collections (Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, a portion of the Gutenberg Bible, Shakespeare folios, John James Audubon’s Birds of America folio are only a few examples) and the personal papers of Marcel Proust, H. G. Wells, Carl Sandburg, Gwendolyn Brooks, Shana Alexander and W. S. Merwin.
